Sedation dentistry is effective and safe for patients of all ages. We have a special process to help our patients feel relaxed during the visit to our dentist office. We offer three types of sedation methods, including:
Also referred to as “sleep dentistry” or “conscious sedation,” Oral sedation is introduced as pill form. The pill will relax the central nervous system, allowing you to feel sleepy. Oral sedation is a great option for people who experience anxiety with needles or shots.
Known as “general anesthesia,” IV sedation is the strongest type of sedation dentistry. Patients receive the sedation drug intravenously, which allows the treatment to work quickly. After the sedative is administered, the patient will become unconscious. Vital signs of patients are supervised at all times. Once the treatment is complete and the patient wakes up, it’s necessary to have a loved one drive you home.
As the most basic type of sedation, nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedation agent that is mixed oxygen. It’s introduced through a small mask that fits over your nose. Also called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide helps patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their time at the dentist. The gas tends to wear off quickly.
Customized Sedation Dentistry
We customize the sedation dentistry experience for each patient depending on age, weight, level of anxiety experienced, etc. If you choose the sedation dentistry experience please keep in mind that you will need a ride to and from your procedure. It is not safe to drive under the effects of the sedation medications. Your sedation is monitored by our dental staff in order to ensure that you are comfortable at all times while you are in our dental office.
